Chapter 5 Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes are summarized lists of the main ideas/skills that students should take away from a chapter. “Learning Outcomes” lists are not exhaustive; there may be other ideas/skills covered in the chapter that are also useful but not necessarily the main focus.

For Chapter 5 the Learning Outcomes are:

1. Utilize and interpret curved arrow notation.

2. Determine the location of formal charges resulting from the movement of electrons.

3. Draw and evaluate possible resonance structures for organic molecules.

4. Calculate the formal charge of an atom based on the number of bonds and lone pairs.

5. Predict the reactivity of molecules based on their contributing resonance structures.

6. Utilize and interpret over-the-arrow notation.

7. Interpret simple reaction coordinates, including the associated terminology and labels.
