Prompt: wilderness of knowledge, compacted in understanding

Introduction

Nolej is an online generative AI tool that functions in the collaboration of multi streamed information. Nolej has the ability to organize a piece of information and package that information in ways that can benefit both teacher and student. Individuals are able to upload documents, copy in links to videos, or use text in order to create a wide range of exportable documents that may be used for teacher planning and student comprehension.

Nolej allows educators to create interactive videos, in class activities, study guides, formative and summative assessments based on the information uploaded into the AI generative tool. The “microlearning” packages can be exported into such programs as google classroom, blackboard, canvas, Moodle, and all other learning management systems.

Nolej is a membership-based program that offers to the individual teacher and/or the school as a whole. The website does offer a 10-day free trial period for each individual to sign up and test the software. Within that trial package each user is permitted to create 3 exportable packages free of charge prior to deciding upon the correct membership package. The individual package starts at $16.67 per month while a group rate for an entire school staff can be determined by contacting the Nolej sales team.

Connection to Curriculum

Nolej is an intellectual source that can be used for any type of informational restructuring and review. Nolej can be used in the classroom for curriculum content, on the sports team for extracurricular review, or even outside of the school environment to grasp any information.

In reference to the Saskatchewan curriculum, the use of Nolej hits the cross-curricular competencies shared by all Curriculums with the Saskatchewan curriculum guide. Nolej particularly hits Development thinking: thinking and learning creatively and Developing literacies: developing knowledge related to various literacies and  exploring and interpreting the world through various literacies (Chemistry 30: Saskatchewan Curriculum Guide, 2016). Nolej does so by allowing an alternative literacy of learning for the student by restructuring information in a formidable method to allow students to learn creatively.

With that being said it is important to note the potential for misinformation within the AI generator. Nolej only reformats the information put into the sytem so it is important for users to verify the information is true and directly linked to the Saskatchewan curriculum within the chosen area of study.

Affordances and Constraints

Affordances

  1. Ability to upload a variety of documents (video, file upload, text) to create microlearning package.
  2. Ability to have a school account with multiple users.
  3. Ability to create interactive e-learning in minutes.
  4. Can gather intelligence and turn them into learning systems that can be set for the individual learner.
  5. System is compatible with Google Classroom, Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard and many more learning management systems.
  6. Nolej keeps a record of packages created for future use.

Constraints

  1. Correct information is based on the data provided in the document/video/text so educators would need to make sure data is correct prior to inputting into the system.
  2. There is no free version, but rather a trial period prior to a membership debt of $16.67per month to be paid.
  3. No teaching methods (other than summary) but rather study notes and assessments available.

The Process

  1. Access nolej.io
  2. Click the “Sign up” button, located at the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Sign up for the tool using an email address or Google account. Once signed up you will be given a free trial period of 10 days.
  4. There is an “upgrade” button in the top right corner once logged in that a user can utilize at any point in time to upgrade to a premium paid package.
  5. Click the “Create” button to begin the process
  6. Select the language in which the package will be processed and give the file a “Microlearning title” name.
  7. Upon completion of the previous step, the user will be given the option to turn on “manual mode” which enables the user to review and validate each step of the AI-generated interactive material in real time.
  8. Users will then select one of the following methods of input for their learning material and select “create microlearning.”
    • File upload
    • URL for audio/video
    • Type text (AI analysis completed on entry between 500 and 50,000 characters)
  9. Refer to the image below for the following input:
  10. Once your response has been generated, you will returned to the “library” portion of Nolej as seen below. The first step of three will be in process and once completed you will have the option to select the “To edit” button.
  11. Once in the editing portion of Nolej, you will be given the transcript of the document/video/audio and given the chance to add or delete any information that you wish to be or not be in the microlearning package. Select “Save” button if any adjustments are made and once satisfied with the transcript select the “continue” button.
  12. Now that the transcript is confirmed, the final two stages of the process can be complete. Step two which is the analyzing of the uploaded document and step three which is the generating step of the microlearning.
  13. Now your document is ready and able to be viewed by clicking on the “ready” button in library list. Once selected a user will have a variety of choices to select from like:
    • Quiz (formative)
    • Quiz (graded)
    • Transcription
    • Flash cards
    • etc.
  14. If you would like to export the microlearning package, click the “export package” icon at the top right corner of the page.

Prompt Engineering

When selecting a piece of information to turn into a micro learning package, It is important to review the transcripts for its validity. When exporting the package it works best with Google classroom, Canvas, and Blackboard so it would be in the best interest of the educator to have an account already created.

Recommendations

As previously stated when using a restructured learning system it is vital to validate the information being inputted into the AI generator. Since the system saves educators time to create assessments and review systems it is imperative to use the editing system correctly. Educators would be advised to use this step to read the entire transcript to validate the information prior to the Nolej system creating the microlearning package. After the package is created the educator can choose to edit any pieces prior to presenting it to students.

Acknowledgement of AI Use

Throughout this product the AI program known as Nolej was utilized to create sample microlearning packages to better understand the product created. By creating these samples microlearning packages I was able to take screenshots of the resulting steps to better aid my presentation on how to properly use the Nolej AI generator. I also utilized the ChatGPT platform when gathering information on how to connect the media literacy to the Saskatchewan curriculum.
