8-E6. Practice Exercise – Practice with Block Diagrams

There are two full-page block diagrams (links above) that you will use in this exercise, and the diagrams are replicated below in a flat version that you can complete and use for review after you complete the exercise. Using the full-page versions of the block diagrams, cut along the dashed lines and fold along the solid lines to examine the block in three dimensions. For each of the block diagrams complete the following:

• Complete the diagram drawing in geological contacts on each side of the block
• Add symbols indicating the strike and dip of each geological layer as well as symbols documenting any other geological features
• Identify the geologic structure presented on the block and write the name of this feature on the top surface of the block
• Transfer the information you have drawn on the 3-D block diagrams onto the flat versions below.
