  • Cholesterol is the only lipid that is routinely measured in veterinary medicine, but lipemic serum may prompt measurement of triglycerides.
  • A fasting sample should be evaluated to rule out post-prandial increases in lipids.
  • Secondary hyperlipidemia is much more common than primary hyperlipidemia in veterinary medicine.
