Chapter 10: Endocrine System
The endocrine system includes glandular tissues that secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream. This chapter will focus on parathyroid, thyroid, adrenal, pituitary glands and the endocrine pancreas. Some diseases of the endocrine system may cause hyperfunction, while others cause hypofunction. The diagnosis of endocrine diseases can be challenging. History, physical examination findings, and typical changes on routine bloodwork may suggest a particular endocrine disease, with confirmation of the diagnosis often requiring specific tests.
