How To Use This Book

The book is separated into topics according to how many of us teach our undergraduate course in Veterinary Clinical Pathology, starting with erythrocytes and leukocytes, building layer upon layer, and reinforcing concepts along the way. The aim is for students to read the chapters consecutively and work through the cases at the end of each chapter, focusing on the subject of the chapter, but perusing the other laboratory data and interpretations in order to develop a good understanding of the importance and inter-relatedness of the other results. At the beginning, the student may not absorb interpretations that are peripheral to the chapter itself but after studying all of the chapters, earlier cases will be appreciated in their entirety.

There are several additional components to this work:

Appendix I contains practice cases on various subject areas; interpretations are provided at the end of the data sets.
Appendix II is a guide for interpreting laboratory results – a useful tool to help the reader remember the possible explanations for abnormal results of all routine tests.
Appendix III is a quick reference to the “answers” for the cases in the 13 chapters and Appendix I.
A List of Abbreviations used throughout all chapters, in alphabetical order, follows the appendices.
A Glossary of Terms used throughout all chapters completes the e-book.
