.Why Did We Create This Book?

 

Quality course design is essential to provide students with an engaging, effective learning experience. Our goal was to provide instructors with a comprehensive resource that offers practical guidance and best practices for designing courses that meet diverse learning needs. We aim to support educators in creating well-structured, outcome-focused courses that enhance student learning and success. Our hope is that the Course Design Handbook will assist instructors in developing impactful, inclusive, and high-quality educational experiences for all students.

Layout of This Book

The Course Design Handbook is parsed out into 4 sections, or steps, that walk you through the process of designing and developing a course. Those 4 steps are:

  1. Step 1: Understanding Your Learners and Context.
  2. Step 2: Design and Develop Your Course.
  3. Step 3: Implement Your Course Materials.
  4. Step 4: Gather Feedback, and Improve.

There are many downloadable resources and links placed throughout this book, please refer to the Appendix to find these supportive resources all in one place.
